Springtime in Idaho! Flowers start to bloom, the weather warms, and the bleak winter fades away. Sounds great, right? Not so much, when many pests start appearing again. We get to enjoy relative peace from these little critters during the winter months, but once the sun starts coming out, so do they. In Idaho, pest control is especially crucial during this time of year. One of the most annoying and prevalent pests we start to see around this time are flies. They invade our homes, buzz around incessantly, and land on our food. These insects can spread bacteria and disease if left unchecked.
Anyone living in the Treasure Valley has experienced flies in abundance during the warmer months of the year. Get Lost Pest Control is your hometown expert for Idaho pest control, and we want to help you enjoy your spring, fly free. Here are some tips to prevent them from entering your home.
- Remove pet waste. If you have a pet, or several, their waste may be an attractant for flies, drawing them in near your home. If they are close, it’s not difficult for them to find a way in to your home through a door or window. Pick up your pet’s waste promptly to help avoid this occurrence.
- Check your screens. Flies are not very big. They can easily slip through door or window screens if there is even a small hole in them. Check outside entrances, add screens if you do not already have them, and consider a finer mesh screen.
- Keep your trash sealed. Outside trash can be a huge problem. Flies are easily attracted to garbage, and it can provide food and breeding grounds for them, exacerbating your problem exponentially. Make sure your trash cans have tight-fitting lids. Clean your trash cans regularly, and make sure your plastic trash bags are sealed completely.
- Inspect your property. If you are noticing large amounts of flies around your home, take a look around your property. There is probably a breeding site nearby. Possible culprits are pooling or stagnant water, compost piles, pet or livestock food, or other dirty objects such as dog kennels.
Prevention is always better than treatment. However, even with your best efforts, you may still need some extra help. Get Lost Pest Control is here to help you have a healthy and happy spring.
