Spiders can be a major concern for Meridian homeowners.

Although Meridian may not be the most rural town, it does have areas that suffer from spider populations. Even places like Settlers Park can be home to spiders that can deliver painful and dangerous bites. Species like the Black Widow, Hobo Spider, and Brown Recluse can all be found in the Treasure Valley and if you happen upon one of these more dangerous spiders, they may bite you. To protect yourself from harmless and harmful spiders alike, contact a Meridian spider control professional.

Common Spiders

Black widow spiders get their name due to the fact that the females eat the males soon after they mate. Venomous, they can be identified by their black shiny bodies, which include a bright red, hourglass marking on the underside of their abdomen. They range from 1½ to 1¾ inches in length and can be found throughout the entire United States.

Brown recluse spiders range in color from light brown to dark brown and have a brown violin marking on their backs. With round bodies and eight legs, they are typically ¼ to ½ inches long and extremely venomous. Although they are most commonly found in the central Midwest, brown recluse spiders can easily hitchhike inside boxes or other things shipped to your house.

Hobo spiders are also known as aggressive house spiders. As one of the three most venomous spiders found in the United States, the Hobo is brown with a yellow chevron-shaped marking on its abdomen. Easily distinguishable, they range from ½ to 2 inches long. They are most commonly found in the Midwestern and southern states.

House spiders are typically brown or gray in color. They are small to medium in size and range from ⅛ to ⅜ inches long. Males and females vary in their appearance due to their round or elongated abdomens and are found throughout the entire United States. Unlike their poisonous counterparts, house spiders are more of a common nuisance than a dangerous one.
