Ghost Ant

Category: Ants

Scientific Name: Tapinoma melanocephalum

Color: Pale
Size: 1/16 of an inch

Region: Found in Florida, Hawaii and Texas within the US as well as Puerto Rico, Canada and Islands in the Caribbean

Important Considerations:

  • They are pale in color, tiny and hard to see, which is why they are called ghost ants.
  • When they are disturbed or crushed, they can omit a coconut like odor.
  • Once inside, the ants are attracted to sweets.

Where to Find Them on Your Property?

Inside, nests can be found within wall voids, cavities, behind baseboards or cabinets.  Outside, nests can be found in soil such as potted plants, underneath debris and in firewood.
