Important Considerations:

  • Midges are often mistaken for small mosquitos.
  • Some species of midges’ bite and can cause allergic reactions in people.
  • When they emerge into the adult stage, it is often in huge swarms of thousands.

 

Where to Find Them on Your Property?

The young stages of the Midge are found in aquatic areas. This includes oceans, lakes, streams, ponds, drainage ditches or any other water. Some will even live in soil or in other organic matter such as bark or decaying plants. They adults are attracted to light and can travel up ¼ of a mile from the breeding site.
