Important Considerations:

  • Can carry many diseases that are potentially dangerous for humans such as West Nile Virus, filariasis, and encephalitis.
  • Culex mosquitoes like to feed on human blood. They often bite at dawn or dusk, and their bites can be itchy, painful, and irritating.
  • Females can lay 100 to 300 eggs at a time. These eggs will hatch only 2 days later.

 

Where to Find Them on Your Property?

These mosquitoes breed in any type of standing water such as ponds, rain barrels, pools, ditches, open drains, and gutters. During the hot hours of the day, adult mosquitoes like to rest in the shade of vegetation or in dark places alongside buildings.
