Important Considerations:

  • Although they do not pose a threat to humans, common house spiders are a nuisance. They continually build new webs to catch prey that can be hard to remove.
  • Homes with poor weather-stripping, screen-less windows and doors, and cracks leading into garages or sheds are the most susceptible to infestations of house spiders.
  • Common house spiders can be easily confused with brown recluse spiders because they have a similar body shape and coloring.

Where to Find Them on Your Property?

Common house spiders can be found inside any home or manmade structure. They prefer to build their webs in dark corners, so they choose places such as barns, cellars, basements, woodpiles, storage sheds, and basements to reside. They are most likely to be seen in the warmer months when the males are looking for a female to mate with.
