Important Considerations:

  • Tarantulas are the largest spiders in the world.
  • There are 45 different species of tarantulas found in the United States. They are usually found in the southern and southwestern states.
  • Although their appearance can be very frightening, tarantulas are typically docile and do not outwardly attack humans. However, they will bite if frightened.

Where to Find Them on Your Property?

Tarantulas are nocturnal, so it is rare to see them. This is especially true for females; they hardly ever venture out of the security of their burrows. Tarantulas prefer to create these burrows either inside the ground itself, or underneath stones, logs, or other items touching the ground.
