Generally harmless to humans, Boxelder bugs are nuisance pests, as they gather in large numbers on the warm walls of a home or business.
Boxelder bug nymphs are red and turn black as they age. The adult boxelder bug is black with red stripes on their body and wings. They’re about ½ inch long, and are sometimes described as having the shape of a sunflower seed. They prefer to warm themselves on white colored buildings. They probably wouldn’t choose the color of Alejandra’s Mexican Restaurant first.
